Day 1 - …And We’re Off!
We started our day bright and early in the Carpathian mountains, waking up just before 6 AM. Our house was filled with the energy of athletes, partners, media, cooks, drivers, and other team members all preparing for the long-awaited launch of our campaign. After breakfast, we made the two-hour journey to our starting line at the Romanian border near Dilove, joined by the Republic Pilgrim Children and members of the Chaplains Battalion of Mariupol. The excitement grew as media coverage began, followed by moments of preparation and ceremony. Finally, Tyler and Nikki Chay led the way through the starting line, beginning their trek across Ukraine, accompanied by Pilgrim children and Battalion members.
The entire day was filled with joy and a sense of purpose. The route took us through stunning landscapes along a river in the Carpathian mountains, and the convoy passed through military checkpoints, villages, and a few cities. Along the way, we were greeted with smiles and waves from Ukrainian locals, making the journey even more memorable. It was a day we had all eagerly awaited, and seeing Tyler and Nikki complete their first marathon was a proud moment for everyone involved.
Being part of this moment with our friends was truly special. We are endlessly proud of the bravery, service, and resilience of the Pilgrim Republic and the Chaplains Battalion of Mariupol. It is a great honor to walk alongside them during this challenging time. Please follow us as we continue this journey, supporting Tyler and Nikki as they run from the Romanian border to the frontlines of Eastern Ukraine. Spread the word and donate at dontcant.org to help us continue this important work.
